WNA AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTION TO
THE PEACEFUL USE OF NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY TO WIN
JUNKO
OGAWA (Japan)
Now the president of WIN-Global
and a top public relations executive at the Japan Atomic Power
Company, she has a distinguished record of 30 years as a professional
communicator within and for the nuclear industry.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Thank you Agneta. It is
my great pleasure and honour to be invited to make a speech
to you on behalf of Women In Nuclear. This is the first time
that WIN, as an organisation, has been presented with an award,
and it is a great honour to accept this WNA Award for Distinguished
Contribution. This wonderful gift is the result of the effort
by all women -- WiN members -- and their contribution to nuclear
industry. Especially the efforts of the founder members including
today’s presenter, Madam Rising, as well as the former three
Presidents. These are -- the first President, Irene Aegerter
of Switzerland, the second President, Agneta from Sweden,
and the third President, Annick Carnino from France. I'm the
fourth President and the luckiest, as I am the one invited
to today’s milestone occasion.
Now I would like to praise ordinary members. There are now
25 different WIN groups around the world. WIN currently has
approximately 2,000 members spread throughout 56 countries.
As Agneta mentioned, WIN’s goal is to contribute objectively
to inform the public about nuclear energy and radiation, especially
women. In other words, put simply, to be a bridge. This means
to be a bridge between the public and the nuclear professions.
A bridge among nuclear specialties. A bridge between countries.
A bridge between the present and the future, and the bridge
between men and women. The role of the bridge is perfect for
making the most of women’s strengths.
Speaking of support, I must express our deepest gratitude
to the WNA for its support of WiN over the past six years.
For example, the management of the administrations, maintenance
of our website, and the issuing of WINFO. It has only been
possible with their support. I would appreciate the WNA’s
continued support to WiN now and in the future.
Chairman Gonzales, Director General Rich, and Madam Rising,
I am very, very pleased and honoured to accept the WNA award
on behalf of Women In Nuclear all around the world. Thank
you very much.
